PIMLICO MEWS

120 m2

The mews is located on a cobbled street in the Westminster Pimlico Conservation Area.

The building is a three story house which required a near complete refurbishment. This included new partitions and services in all 3 bathrooms, a kitchen, a glass screen to isolate the stairwell, joinery throughout, oak engineered floors and furniture. Some existing services were kept and some internal doors were retained with new ironmongery.

The external facade and old double carriage house doors were restored and redecorated; a new solid tongue and groove entrance door was created, and an electric car power point installed.

The ground floor works involved converting a garage and utility room into a new habitable space; here the floor level was raised and protected against humidity and flooding. New partitions were erected to create a dressing room and a new service room.

The first floor stairwell wall was entirely removed and replaced with a fully glazed fire rated screen, drawing in light and transparency across the floor. The reduced footprint of the screen has freed space and emphasizes the centrality of the stair and its access.

A new modern Italian kitchen was installed, and a large bespoke storage cabinet fitted in the living room to hide TV & AV systems behind fully retractable shutters.

On the 2nd floor a new bedhead joinery wall was built to create a background with headlights and a large shelf to store books. More storage was installed in the guest bedroom/ study.

All 3 bathrooms were refurbished with the aim to create chromatically different environments, while evoking a common language through the unified use of natural terrazzo.

Despite the limited space of mews properties, the rooms have been designed to maximise storage capacity and ensure both functionality and a cohesive aesthetic.

Feng Shui principles were applied in parts of the house.
